How to Make an Easy Origami Elephant Face for Kids: Simple Step-by-Step
Paper folding or origami is a fantastic and educational activity that helps youngsters develop their creativity, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills. Crafting with simple materials like colorful paper is a wonderful, screen-free way for parents and teachers to spend quality time with toddlers or elementary students at home or school.
In this easy origami tutorial, we will guide children step-by-step to create a super cute Origami Elephant Face. It is very simple, and it only requires a few basic folds!
Materials and Supplies Needed:
Before starting your fun paper folding session, make sure to collect these basic supplies:
- 1 sheet of square origami paper (blue, gray, or pink color is preferred)
- 1 black marker or crayon to draw the elephant's eyes
- A flat table or surface to make clean folds
Step-by-Step Instructions to Fold an Elephant Face:
Step 1: Make the Diagonal Crease
Place your square origami paper on the table with the colored side facing down. Fold the paper in half diagonally by bringing the bottom corner up to the top corner. Press down firmly to make a clean crease, then unfold the paper back into a square. You will see a neat line in the middle.
Step 2: Fold the Side Corners
Take the left corner of the paper and fold it inward so the edge lines up perfectly with the center crease line you made in Step 1. Do exactly the same thing with the right corner. Your paper will now look like a kite shape.
Step 3: Fold the Top Corner Down
Take the sharp top corner of the kite shape and fold it straight down toward the center. This fold will create a flat top area, which will eventually become the forehead of our cute origami elephant.
Step 4: Create the Elephant Ears
Now, look at the big flaps on the left and right sides. Take the left corner and fold it outward diagonally to form a large elephant ear. Repeat the same step on the right side. Make sure both ears look symmetrical and even.
Step 5: Fold the Elephant Trunk
Flip the entire paper over to the other side. You will start to see the shape of the elephant head! Take the sharp bottom corner (the trunk) and fold it upward once, then fold a small piece of it back down. This clever zig-zag fold makes the trunk look like it is waving happily.
Step 6: Draw the Beautiful Eyes
Your paper folding is completely finished! To bring your origami elephant to life, take your black marker or crayon. Draw two big, happy eyes right above the trunk. You can also add small details like eyelashes or little wrinkles on the elephant's trunk.
Safety and Crafting Tips for Success:
Always use standard, lightweight origami paper because thick construction paper can be quite difficult for tiny children's fingers to crease neatly. Encourage kids to smooth out every single fold with their thumbs to make the final craft project look professional and beautiful.
